The AL48 is Long Recoil operated and the UL is Inertia operated. They are both well made and reliable. The UL has the advantage of shooting any shell with in gauge without changing any rings for different loads. The UL also has a 3" chamber to the AL's 2 3/4 only. I personally would go with the franchi, both guns will get the job done.
